About Puerto Andratx

Puerto de Andratx or Port D’Andratx as the Majorcans call it is among the best and most amazing natural Majorcan harbors. It used to be a trivial fishing village, but thanks to nautical activities in the area, it has urbanized to become one of the most significant and elite tourist attractions with outstanding villas, extravagant hotels, and incredible complexes. The church was more like a castle; it has thick bare stones walls and almost no windows. The Islanders used the church as a safe haven to protect and defend pirate raids.

One edifice of attraction in the town of Andratx is the grand mansion, or better said, the regal castle called Palau de son Mas. Just like the church, this edifice is powerful and its as old as the 19th century. This building stands on the very foundation of the Moorish fortress in the town of Andratx. The usually quiet Andratx, with the population of 12,000 people, comes to life every Wednesday as people from neighboring town come to trade and do business. In Andratx, Wednesday is set aside for market activities with both tourists and locals coming in. The construction of the new freeway that leads to San Telmo has reduced the amount of traffic and chaos along the road. The freeway, which replaced the narrow way in Andratx, leads to Port de Andratx through Horta de Andratx. This beautiful road creates the scenery of a paradise as you walk along the path. This gets more beautiful especially during the period of almond blossom that beautifies the environment with pink and white petals.

Port de Andratx is well known for its fishing activities with numerous fishing on water at practically every hour of the day. These fishing boats head back to the harbor from the day’s work, and when they do, they come with the blessings of Poseidon. At this time, you will find a variety of fishes, fresh out of the water. These fishes are spread in nets to dry or sold fresh.
